The thing with motivation is that it’s cyclical. It comes and goes - just like many things in life. Some days you can be highly driven, other days not so much. We shouldn’t have to depend on motivation to get things done.
Learning to channel discipline will help you stay focused. Always go for the more long-lasting and sustainable option rather than a “quick fix.” This helps you maintain consistency to get through tasks, no matter how difficult or tedious.
Here's a simple example. Think of our day-to-day lives.
How many times have you thought: “I really don’t want to go into work today!”- Even if you’re a work enthusiast, I’m sure this thought must have crossed your mind. Despite this, you still get up and go. When you lack the motivation, it’s your self-discipline that comes into play and convinces you to go in.
To become a better performer and build character, discipline is essential. This can be expressed in many ways through perseverance, self-control and being more aware. It can be applied in both in our personal and professional lives. We should take steps to develop and strengthen this crucial life skill. Practise it a few times and it becomes a habit. Commit to it longer and it becomes a part of your personality.
It takes time to build and maintain progress, but seconds to lose it. Having a vision and targets are important. They give you something to look forward to and work towards. On top of that, it supports in keeping the mind engaged and occupied.
So here’s to the thought of the day: “Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret”
Discipline helps you grow and improve yourself everyday.
